Mistakes
On a CNN Sunday talking heads program today, Hillary Clinton was asked if her vote to authorize the war in Iraq was a mistake. She replied by saying she regretted that President Bush had not given Congress more accurate information. She was asked again if the vote was a mistake. Her answer was that she didn't want to get hung up on the word "mistake," but that if she'd known then what she knows now, she would not have voted for the war, and she takes responsibility for that.
One of the maddening things about Bush is his inability to admit mistakes. Hillary Clinton's performance today was absolutely Bushy in her refusal to admit that she had erred.
I'm undecided about whom to support in the primaries. I'm keeping an open mind. However, Hillary Clinton missed a chance to convince me to back her today. All she would have had to do was to say, "Yes, I made a mistake voting for the Iraq war and I regret it deeply. I relied on what our President was telling us and I was wrong not to be more skeptical."
What's so hard about that?
