My take is that the Thompson campaign  is failing because Fred's campaign, insofar as it existed at all, was based on the word isn't.

Thompson isn't Mormon like Romney.

He isn't mean and corrupt and socially moderate like Giuliani.

He isn't old and mavericky like John McCain.

He isn't a drool-flecked pulpit-banger like Huckabee.

He isn't a lunatic like Hunter, Tancredo or Keyes.

Thompson's problem is that he never made a compelling argument of who is is.
